According to the US Bureau of Statistics, In October 2019, 16.2 million people ages 16 to 24 were not enrolled in school. The labor force participation rate of youth not enrolled in school increased over the year to 81.2 percent. A lot of students know that going to college means they will make more money, but according to the Atlantic, Many people who graduate from college make more money than those who do not. But the rigidity of this narrative could lead parents and students alike to be shortsighted as they plan for their future careers. Yes, many college graduates make more money—but less than half of students finish the degrees they start. This number drops as low as 10 percent for students in poverty. The ever-sought-after college-acceptance letter isn’t a guarantee of a stable future if students aren’t given the support they need to complete a degree. If students are exposed to the possibility of vocational training early on, that might help remove some of the stigmas and help students and parents alike see a variety of paths to a successful future. Vocational programs can be the key to students getting a quality education without spending a fortune and having tens of thousands of dollars in student loans that need to be repaid.
The founder has been teaching as a tutor since 2010, and professionally as a professor since 2017. She has successfully taught over 300 students in more than 10 countries (online). She founded the idea of Florida Academy of Design, Art, Marketing, and Technology (FADAM Tech) in 2020. Although there are several “Art” schools located in Orlando, FL, there are not that many schools that actively incorporate an even blend of digital design, marketing, and technology—like coding languages & marketing concepts. Even the few schools that are doing this, are not offering students enough time to fully immerse themselves in the materials to gain a solid grasp of the concepts. FADAM Tech is here to change that.
We will offer a 15-month hands-on, instructor-led, project-based virtual program for students that will prepare them for successful careers post-graduation. This program will cover 2.5 months of Photography, 3.5 months of Graphic Design, 6 months of Web Design, and 3 months of Marketing. Tuition will include a MacBook Pro computer & a DCLR Camera to keep upon successful completion of the full program. The Photography section will cover the basics of how to operate a camera, lighting, exposure, depth of field, and editing photos in Adobe Lightroom. The Graphic Design section will utilize Adobe Creative Cloud products such as Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign. The Web Design section will introduce students to HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. We will also cover frameworks like Bootstrap & CMS’s like Wordpress. The Marketing section will cover Facebook & Google advertising. At the end of each section, there will be the opportunity for students to get certified with Microsoft, Adobe, Facebook, and Google.
At the end of the 15-month program, FADAM Tech will introduce its graduating class to potential employers by hosting a portfolio review. This review will showcase the students' work, and allow invited guests to browse students' work at various stations around a room, and ask questions, all while enjoying an easy atmosphere of food, fun, and drinks. This allows a no-pressure zone for both employers and students alike. For our students who are unable to physically attend this portfolio review in person, we will have a virtual review as well.
