Executive summary

EmpathIQ was created with people in mind. With large-scale layoffs becoming an everyday occurrence in the tech space, many teams are being asked to do more with less. Managers are overburdened and unable to devote as much time to deep-diving into employee wellness, and even with time, lack the skills or knowledge to do so effectively. Sociopolitical shifts are leading to a rise in “quiet quitting” and issues with employee retention. Work-from-home policies continue to become more and more flexible, and many industries are feeling the pain of shifts to “business as usual.”

Tools that measure employee wellness frequently rely on an individual’s ability to accurately self-report. They ask “How are you feeling today?” and assume that an employee has the space to first understand how they are doing and, second, be able to verbalize it in a meaningful way that is also appropriate for business—these assumptions are often incorrect.

EmpathIQ changes all of that.

Market analysis

Target market

  • 100-500 employees
  • SaaS companies (B2C, B2B)
  • Valued at $30million and $60million

Crunchbase reports ~70,000 businesses in segment.

Impact of the problem

Almost 90% of people within the workforce have experienced some degradation of mental wellness within the past year, and the world is ready to start talking about it. However, people in leadership are underprepared and ill-supported to have meaningful conversations about mental wellness with their team, and are often suffering themselves.

Increased overall awareness and support of mental wellness has a substantial impact on the business’ bottom line:

  • Improved sales and MRR
  • Heightened CSAT and experience metrics
  • Less money spent on healthcare overall
  • Lower budget demand for L&D

There are meaningful reasons both at the personnel level and at the fiscal level to implement tooling to improve awareness and training about common mental wellness concerns.

Competitors

There are many competitors that are doing similar work in the space but rely on self-reporting. While the number of employees comfortable with self-reporting has increased in recent years, it is still fewer than 50% of professionals. Similarly, to self-report implies that an individual has awareness that they are feeling burnt-out, depressed or unwell—many employees may not have the mental space to cultivate awareness around this fact.

A key differentiation point between EmpathIQ and other businesses is that EmpathIQ does not require any action in order to provide meaningful insights: no more Slack prompts or emails to fill out.
