Raising $150k to create a children's book and toys empire

Move over, Barbie and American Girl!

Emerald Books sells exciting books and merchandise that shows young girls they can be successful business leaders. Hidden Gems for Kids is a children's book series from author and creator Stephanie Forshee. The series is focused on unsung women in business, such as retail's first female executive Margaret Getchell LaForge, who worked for R.H. Macy's in the 1860s and contributed to the store's lasting success. Other biographies will feature America's first female CEO, Anna Sutherland Bissell, and America's first Black female president, Maggie Lena Walker. Margie's Business Basics for Kids is another book in the series, which will showcase various women in business history while teaching children the basics of starting and operating a business.

Emerald Books has several children's books in the works. The first in the series, Hidden Gems: Margaret Getchell LaForge, will be released in the summer of 2023. To coincide with the book series, I am seeking funding to create iconic dolls, journals, totes, literary gifts, and more. Funding will go toward advertising, publishing, and production costs.

Hidden Gems for Kids was successfully funded on Kickstarter in May 2022.
