After four successful short films, it's time to produce a feature film.  We have optioned the screenplay CONVICTED written by Randall Wolff, a 35-year practicing attorney from Chicago.  CONVICTED is the story of a floundering criminal defense attorney charged with defending a homeless man accused of murdering an off-duty cop.  He soon discovers his boss has an ulterior, corrupt motive for adding him to the team.  Complete with twists and turns, this is a classic, always popular genre.

Please look at our "look book" for this project here.

Dial it Back Films, LLC has produced four successful short films.

Please view our three previous short films here.

Our current film, Last Day, is being shown at film festivals.  You can watch it here.

While we have received many screenings and awards at film festivals around the world, short films are really expensive business cards.  There is virtually zero ROI in making short films. Feature films have a path to profitability.  Once completed, they are shown at festivals and distributors such as Lionsgate, Focus Features, and other intermediary studios will buy them, in turn arranging for screenings in theaters and on streaming platforms.  As with any investment, however, there is no guarantee that investors will recoup their investment.

Depending on the interest of the investors, we can structure the project two ways.
  1. We can work with a charity - in this project either a homeless advocacy group, or an Innocence Project group to structure a donation to their group, which in turn will fund the film in exchange for a share of the profits.  The investor receives a 100% tax deduction for their charitable contribution, the charity receives a share of the investment and publicity through the distribution of the film.
  2. We can register the production LLC with the IRS under Section 168k of the tax code, giving each investor a 100% tax deduction in the first year after production is completed.  You can learn about this tax deduction here.
Rather than one angel investor, we are looking to assemble an investor group of 20 people to help spread the risk.

ABOUT MICHAEL BAKER
Michael is a 60 year old serial entrepreneur.   His most recent business was a software company called Charms Office Assistant that he built from scratch and sold in 2017 to an investor group from Boston.  That sale allowed him to pursue his long held interest in acting and filmmaking.

There is a fluffy article about him here.
