DEFENDERSEDGE is in Phase II to developing a quick and deployable innovative personal protective ballistic shield provide that law enforcement officers with lighter, more ergonomic, and higher-performance ballistic shields that address critical gaps in officer safety during active shooter, riot, and high-threat response situations.

I am writing to you strong interest in submitting a proposal under the DoD SBIR program for the development of an advanced Patented, Next Generation, Deployable, Car Window Mounted Ballistic Shield for Law Enforcement and potentially expanding to dual-use military applications.

 

DEFENDERSEDGE is in Phase II of development for a quick and deployable innovative personal protective ballistic shield that provides law enforcement officers with lighter, more ergonomic, and higher-performance ballistic shields that address critical gaps in officer safety during active shooter, riot, and high-threat response situations.

 

Current ballistic shields are often heavy, bulky, and fatiguing during prolonged operations, limiting officer mobility and response effectiveness. Many departments struggle with cost, weight, and limited multi-hit capability. With rising active threat incidents across the United States, there is an urgent need for NIJ-compliant Level IIIA shields that are significantly lighter while maintaining or exceeding current ballistic performance.

 

As stated, we are in Phase II prototype development stage of a next-gen ballistic shield utilizing clear polycarbonate ballistic material mounted in a vehicles window frame. The platform does not interfere with window operation or side airbags.

This solution will offer:

Our shields target the large U.S. law enforcement market (supported by federal and state grants such as Byrne JAG and Texas Bullet-Resistant Shield programs) as well as expanding to military applications. We anticipate strong dual-use transition opportunities and partnerships with established distributors and manufacturers with several state agencies already inquiring of availability dates.
