The Capital Collar - a Humane End of Life Device for Capital Punishment and The Terminally Ill
The Capital Collar is a patented execution device designed as a proposed alternative method for carrying out the death penalty. It is intended to address legal challenges related to “cruel and unusual punishment” by offering a different approach to existing methods such as lethal injection, gas, or firing squad.
The device, when fitted around the neck of the condemned and activated, simultaneously compresses the carotid artery and wind passage, causing rapid loss of consciousness and eventual death. The process is described as:
1 minute – loss of consciousness
2 minutes – onset of irreversible brain damage
4 minutes – brain death imminent
6–8 minutes – death of the body irreversible
The stated aim is to reduce legal challenges, lower costs associated with lengthy appeals, and provide an alternative method for jurisdictions that retain capital punishment.
The design team includes a Southern California provider of appliances to the film industry, with plans to construct two working tables for delivery to the Texas Department of Corrections at Huntsville, Texas. Field introductions to decision‑makers in Texas and other jurisdictions are planned, along with demonstrations for government and legislative audiences.
