The Journey That Led to ComplyCore
I entered this industry 30 years ago, fresh out of the Navy, searching for purpose. I didn’t want to work in the mills like so many in my hometown, nor did I want to spend my life in a grocery store without direction. I needed something more—I needed to build something that mattered.
That search led me to the City of Summerville Gas Department, where I found my calling in Regulatory Compliance and the technical side of the natural gas industry—a space where few had the skill, and even fewer had the desire to do the work.
But it wasn’t easy.
Enduring the Struggles of the Industry
For 15 years, I faced an inspector who made it his mission to terrorize me, publicly undermining my work in front of managers and city officials who wanted me to fail. Despite the resistance, I pushed forward, mastering regulations, operations, and compliance in ways that no one else around me could.
After those 15 years, I moved to my current role at the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia, where I’ve spent the last 17 years sitting across from operators, listening to their frustrations, seeing their worry and stress firsthand. I’ve worked in small, dusty offices that no one even knows exist, where a single mistake could mean disaster—an entire town without energy, a pipeline explosion, or a gas system shut down that cripples a community.
These operators aren’t just running businesses. They are the backbone of their communities. Yet time and time again, I’ve seen how quickly they are dismissed by industry bigwigs, overlooked in favor of large corporations that have the money, the legal teams, and the resources to stay ahead of regulations while small operators are left scrambling to keep up.
I never want anyone to go through what I’ve gone through in this industry.
The Birth of ComplyCore: Solving the Problems No One Else Would
I know the pain points of this industry better than anyone else. And when no one else would build the solutions that small operators needed, I taught myself to create them—the hard way.
Because the truth is this: If you aren’t the one doing the work, you won’t be the one to find the way through.
For decades, the people with money, resources, and influence could have made compliance easier for small operators—but they never did. They didn’t have to.
That’s why I built ComplyCore.
- To ensure no small operator is left behind.
- To create AI-powered compliance tools that actually serve those who need them most.
- To stop fines, shutdowns, and regulatory uncertainty from destroying businesses that keep communities alive.
