BEYOND PALM -
AN INVESTMENT PROPOSAL by CLARA FARMS
I. INVESTMENT SUMMARY
CLARA Farms is pleased to present you with BEYPOD PALM – a Unique opportunity to invest in technology driven solutions that will help increase the maximum potential achievable in the Oil Palm Kernel value chain in Nigeria and West African markets and to yield high profitability from the processes and reduce wastage by converting 99% of the waste materials into very valuable economic products. Clara Farms is building an agro-allied sector from the ground up by deshelling and converting oil palms into vegetable oil, livestock feed, activated carbon, eco-charcoal briquettes, bio-fertilizers and biogas.
II. THE PROBLEM
1- Small stakeholder Oil palm farmers are littered across the southern parts of Nigeria. These Oil Palm farmers focus primarily on the production of Crude Palm Oil. As a result, they produce different types of waste products, that most would discard for lack of use, while some materials would be sold for profit. The $4 billion Nigerian oil palm business is supported by nearly 3.5 million smallholder growers and because oil palms require a lot of processing capacity to extract vegetable oil, the sector is fragmented, making processing very difficult.
2- One of these by products sold for profit is the “Uncracked Palm Kernel Nuts”.
Farmers employ crude manual methods and inefficient machinery to crack and separate Oil Palm Kernel, resulting in low-quality crude palm kernel oil that is unsuitable for high-quality vegetable oils. The biggest problem with this scenario is these small operators are not able to crack and separate the Nuts in a large commercial quantity and in a timely fashion.
3- During these processes other materials deemed to be waste products are mostly discarded or burnt for lack of use.
III. OUR SOLUTION
Nigeria has a 60% vegetable oil deficit. And because of the country’s current import restrictions, vegetable oil demand cannot be met. Clara Farms targets this pain point by aiming to improve vegetable oil supply and demand in the country. Smallholders, who produce 80% of the available oil palm supply must be made more efficient. As a result of this, Clara Farms a Nigerian Agritech company is introducing a hardware solution – an industrial cracker and separator to boost oil palm kernel processing, productivity and profits in the Nigerian market.
The introduction of this efficient piece of technology will help smallholder farmers crack oil palm nuts and turn the waste products derived from the process into valuable items.
We believe that extending the value chain beyond vegetable oils sets us apart from our competitors. To do this, we are adopting available technologies that are not readily available in the Nigerian to:
1- Crack and separate the Palm kernel Nuts in large quantities on a commercial scale.
THE PRODUCTS DERIVED FROM THIS WOULD BE:
v De-shelled Palm Kernel Nuts
v Crude Palm Kernel Oil
v Palm Kernel Cake
v Palm Kernel Sludge
2- Convert some of the waste materials from Oil Palm Mills into valuable economic products.
THE WASTE TO COMMODITY PRODUCTS WOULD BE:
v To convert the palm kernel shells into ACTIVATED CHARCOAL (Carbon).
v To convert the palm kernel shells into ECO – CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES.
v To convert the palm kernel shells and palm shell fibers into BIOMASS BLOCKS.
v To convert the wastewater from Palm Oil Mill Effluents into BIOGAS & BIO-FERTILIZER.
v To convert empty Palm fruit Bunches into BIO-FERTILIZERS.
V. OUR STORY
Who we are:
CLARA FARMS NIG LTD is a limited liability company incorporated in 2021 in Nigeria with registration # RC-1795352.
CLARA Farms was originally started with the main goal of revolutionizing the food processing industry in Nigeria.
What we are doing:
CLARA Farms entered the Aggrotech Food processing space starting with the Oil Palm Industry and intends to provide a solution to much of the needed pain in the industry by approaching and tackling current methods of processing of the Oil Palm Kernel and replacing them with more efficient ways thereby increasing more value-added products.
Clara Farms is seeking to expand the current Oil Palm kernel value chains by transforming palm oil waste byproducts into non-food goods. We plan to fully control the logistics in processing more oil palm kernels and manufacturing key valuable non-food products, thereby increasing maximum profitability. After extensive research and similar comparisons with the Asian Oil Palm sector, we found many untapped opportunities in the Nigerian oil palm sector simply by plugging the hole if we could convert the waste materials into valuable products.
Why we are doing this:
Nigeria a country with a population of over 200 million people is currently facing dire threats of hunger and starvation according to the Global Hunger Index. The average common person can barely afford to eat twice a day in Nigeria. While most of the reasons for this hunger can be attributed to the government’s poor method of governance and socio-economic disadvantages, much of the problem can also be attributed to losses from simple methods of food processing.
Wastage occurs in almost every aspect of food processing in Nigeria, from post-harvest losses to logistic failures to lack of modern technology driven food processing that enables the maximum potential yield and value addition in any given product chain.
