Calvin's Craft

Calvin's Craft manufactures eco-friendly dog products from upcycled ingredients that utilize innovative packaging formats and are sold in non-traditional locations. Our first product is a dog treat made from spent grain (a waste byproduct from breweries) that is packaged in aluminum cans and sold at breweries and beer/wine/liquor stores nationwide.

Breweries throw away tens of thousands of tons of spent grain per year. Spent grain actually has a great nutrition profile for dogs. We developed a clean label treat recipe that dogs love. We package our treats in recyclable beer cans because they’re more eco-friendly than plastic pouches and help tie the product back to its brewery roots.

Almost all other dog treats are packaged in plastic pouches. We stand out from the crowd; like a Pringles can in the potato chip aisle. Consumers will pick up our product simply because it looks different. We can beat existing brands on the competitive shelves of the dog treat aisle.

But, we are also creating our own distribution network where there’s very little competition from other dog treat brands. We are having a lot of success selling our treats as an impulse purchase item in breweries, craft beer shops, and wine & liquor stores. We actually sell our treats faster in these locations than we do in pet stores. Even better, there are more breweries and beer/wine/liquor stores in the country than there are pet stores. 

We’re just scratching the surface of our product pipeline. We want to create a full line of eco-friendly dog products made from recycled waste. We have ideas for additional products to be made from spent grain, like dog food. We also have ideas for additional products made from other waste streams, like chew sticks made from vegetable pulp or toys made from textile remnants.

 

We have already proven the concept on a small scale. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but we are undercapitalized and understaffed. We are raising seed capital so that we can hire additional team members and purchase the machinery we need to increase our production capacity and allow us to pursue larger purchase orders.

 

We know we will be successful because have an innovative eco-friendly product with unique packaging and we are also creating our own proprietary distribution network.
