The C. Williams Rush Museum of African-American Arts & Culture was founded in 2010 at 200 Hampton Ave. in Kingstree, SC as a prominent institution dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and advancing the cultural contributions of African Americans through art, history, and community engagement. The museum is named after Cassandra Williams Rush, a distinguished lady whose vision for fostering understanding and appreciation of African-American (AA) art and heritage shaped the museum’s foundation and ongoing mission. A deep commitment to solidarity strives to create an inclusive and equitable environment where community members are actively engaged in shaping the cultural narratives that define their lived experiences. 

The museum showcases a wide array of visual arts, historical artifacts, cultural and educational exhibits and interpretations that tell the complex and rich story of (AA) experiences. Through its collections, the museum highlights a broad spectrum of AA achievements, from the early history of African Americans in the U.S. to contemporary contributions in areas such as music, literature, politics, and social justice. It features works by renowned AA artists, traveling exhibits and educational programs, that explore the diverse aspects of AA culture. The museum’s collections include paintings, sculptures, photographs, and textiles, and historical items of documents and personal artifacts that reflect key moments in AA history, from the Civil Rights Movement to the present day.
