A substance abuse treatment center coupled with the technology available and proprietary AI.

Blossom Recovery Project is a startup company, which provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation services to persons located in Fallbrook, CA. Blossom Recovery Project will compete with 14,000 other rehabilitation centers; these are quickly filling to capacity, thereby creating a need for new facilities.

Our rehabilitation services will deliver highly effective inpatient care in a home-like setting with the help of specialized personnel. We aim to be the best alternative to the existing players on the market. We will hire and train highly skilled individuals to fit our patients’ needs. Our efforts will be exceptionally well organized through an electronic order management and time and attendance system. In the next three years, Blossom Recovery Project intends to create a trusted service brand through noticeable quality and advanced tech. We expect our revenues for the Fallbrook, CA location to eventually exceed $6,600,000.

Blossom Recovery Project acknowledges that substance abuse treatment is a growing need. For this reason, our services will be layered, customized, and flexible. We will have a variety of inpatient rehab programs to include 12-step and other programs. We will offer group and individual therapy, as well as counseling and life coaching.

We are a customized, customer-centric business. Our personnel will be ready to serve our customers as best as possible. For this reason, our employees will be available 24/7; we will also devise a packaged – based ordering structure. While our employees will be the best on the market, we will not be able to compete with other companies by lowering our prices. We aim to make good use of the technology presently available, proprietary software, superior amenities, and industry-leading patient care. Therefore, differentiating ourselves from the competition by leveraging that the advantage of today’s technology will optimize the healing capabilities of each patient.

The Market Opportunity

The drug rehabilitation industry is booming. The current job market is currently growing and projections over the next eight years show that growth is faster than the national average. Our rehabilitation center will provide jobs throughout the local community.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 41,100 jobs within the substance abuse and behavioral counselor field will be added by 2024. In fact, the Bureau also reports that those working in counselor positions will experience a 22% growth by 2024, while those in personal social work and social assistant positions will experience a 12% growth. Compared to the national average that all jobs on average are expected to have, the substance abuse treatment industry is expected to perform above the national average in the coming years.

There are several reasons why the substance abuse industry is seeing such accelerating growth. These include:
  • Increase in need. The number of individuals who have access to health insurance is expected to continue to increase because of federal health insurance reform. The law requires insurance plans to cover treatment for mental health disorders in the same way as other chronic diseases. This will increase access to prevention and treatment services to those who were previously uninsured, did not have these services covered, or found treatment to be cost-prohibitive. (BLS, 2016).
  • Social Reform. Demand for substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors are also expected to increase as states seek treatment and counseling services for drug offenders, rather than jail time. (BLS, 2016)

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010 is expanding private and government coverage of industry services, thereby bolstering demand.

Most of the industry’s revenue comes from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance, all of which provide set the prices in the industry. Therefore, competition between providers is not on price, but rather, reputation, name recognition, quality of care, word of mouth and referrals from medical professionals.

The healthcare tech space is one of the best industries to be in now and within the future. It is currently worth $336.2 billion worldwide. Taking that into consideration coupled with the experience the founder has building startups provides a massive opportunity within an industry that the demand exceeds the supply.

Start-up Analysis

Blossom Recovery Project anticipates an initial capital requirement of $1,358,014 to commence its operations. There is no initial investment from the owner, except for his experience, market knowledge, customer deviation, and dedication.

The funds are required to launch the company’s business, purchase equipment, acquire and build out the location, hire key personnel and fund working capital requirements, such as the proper marketing initiatives to launch the business.

Upon investment, Blossom Recovery Project will spend $837,095 to acquire property, small equipment, transportation vehicles, a website, electronic order booking system, operating expenses and build the AI App. In addition, Blossom Recovery Project will pay the mortgage for the first year of operations, cover the insurance and place their operations in line with accreditation and Medicaid requirements.

The remaining amount following the aforesaid expenditures will be $520,919. This amount will be used to secure cash flow throughout the first year of operations by covering wages, running expenses, marketing, and emergency reparations of the fleet or replacement of lost or damaged equipment.

Our assumptions are based on the size and culture of the market we address, together with the projected revenues and expenses for the first three years of operations. We will deliver our promise of excellence in the provision of our services, facilitate a great customer experience, and encourage bidirectional communication with our customers and employees alike. We will address our target markets through the preferred outlets of the customers, and we will obtain rapid growth by creating visibility around the company service line and capabilities.

Increasing Demand

The second leading contributor of mental and behavioral disorders in the U.S is drug use. The fourth is alcohol use, which is ahead of anxiety, schizophrenia, and eating disorders.

A survey taken in 2014 showed that substance abuse is untreated in over 50% of the population, while only 8% of those receiving treatment receive appropriate care. In a study conducted by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, there were a reported total of 4,062,843 patients treated for substance abuse on average from 2005-2010.

Advances in Technology

The substance abuse treatment industry is in the middle of a tremendous technological revolution. Technology-assisted care has shown improvements in treating substance abuse and related problems. The national drug abuse Research Clinical Trails Network (CTN) found that in outpatients with opioid dependence, computer-administered CRA with vouchers produced similar abstinence weeks with longer, continuous abstinence than therapist-administered CRA with vouchers and reduced therapist time. (Bickel et al., 2008) TES was an effective adjunct to HIV prevention education for youth in substance abuse treatment. TES, combined with counseling, produced greater 12-month abstinence than counseling alone. (Marsch et al., 2011) In a prison population, TES was as effective as standard treatment in reducing drug use, risk of HIV infection and self-reported criminal behavior at 3- & 6-months post-release, and greater reported treatment satisfaction & completion. (Chaple et al., 2013).

The substance abuse industry is struggling to keep up. Learning how to correctly and effectively use these new gadgets takes a considerable investment of time and effort.  While some agencies are leading the pack, others are lagging – put off by either the added cost or the extra hassle. There is a basic disconnect in the payer community between the payers’ desire and their ability to embrace next-generation healthcare, business models.

With the future of health reform now coming into focus, thereby driving renewed consumer involvement in healthcare, we believe that 2018 was the year that many payers started to focus on transforming their businesses using cutting-edge technology.

Target Market

We are not dependent on a certain geographical region, but our focus will be the residents of the Midwest. We are not restricted, and we will fulfill all orders that we will receive. Building a strong reputation, while establishing relationships with Medicare and social workers, will be important for us during the first phase of operations.

Growth Opportunities

Blossom Recovery Project has great growth opportunities at its disposal. First, it will grow by providing excellent service in a market in desperate need of specialists. Second, the company will grow by reaching additional customers through its marketing activities and excellent referrals. The company believes that once it has established its reputation and presence in the street, continued customer growth will follow. It is important to note that Blossom Recovery Project will advertise its products and services online and offline. In addition to expanding our customer base, we will look at diversifying the service packages in our offer and at covering a larger area after the third year of operations. We will be expanding our reach into a second city, and ultimately nationwide. The industry is not expected to face significant hurdles or challenges in the next few years in terms of growth, but only in terms of available specialists. No major events are expected in this market, while the barriers to entry are low. The current demographics confirm that our growth plans are not overly ambitious.
