I worked as a contractor and built 8 foot tall game fence in Alaska. The fence was built to keep the moose and native buffalo out of the hay and the grain fields there. They were planning to raise buffalo on the land as well and needed the feed for them. The place is big enough to handle about 500 total animals self sufficiently. The current owner has gotten all the paperwork done and has started Raising Rocky Mountain Elk as its main income. To meet grazing requirements until there are enough elk here we are still keeping buffalo here currently. In Alaska buffalo and elk are legally raised as livestock and can be sold to hunters or they can be taken to a meat processing facility and butchered to help with the military bases in Alaska. I have been here since 2017 mostly during the summer and fall and then went back to my place in Wyoming to take care of my cattle there. Forty five years in cattle and sheep production as a rancher and it turns out that elk and buffalo are not really any different. They are just bigger and slightly more dangerous is all. The place is going to be sold due to the owners age he says it’s to cold here for him in the winter and I hope to buy it if possible. There are not many places that raise elk at all in the United States. With the sales in grain, hay, buffalo, and elk on paper it should be possible to be completely paid back in ten years. Everything that is on the place today goes with the sale of the place. House, shop, barns, corrals, haying equipment, and vehicles all stay with whoever buys the land. I am not able to use my place in Wyoming to buy this one here due to family ties and have tried every option available to me and unfortunately I can’t get it done without some help to get started off with. Hoping to find an avid hunter/conservational person to help me out here as my last chance. Thanks for your time at least reading the request.
