I am starting an aviation themed BBQ food truck/trailer company. Aviation and BBQ are in my blood so why not combine them.
I am starting a food truck/trailer that is aviation themed and will sell mainly BBQ. But not just the standard BBQ fare. I have envisioned a simple yet delicious menu like these, rib sandwich (like the McRib, but with actual rib meat), brisket sliders, tri-tip/brisket/pulled pork stroganoff to name a few. This will all be prepared in a trailer setup with a commercial kitchen and a porch for my smokers.
In my area, the Black Hills of South Dakota, food trucks are taking off and the opportunity is ripe for the picking. There are about 10 food trucks in my immediate area and 2 sell BBQ. One sells traditional BBQ and the other sells BBQ tacos and egg rolls. As of yet, no one else has a rib sandwich or brisket sliders. The market is growing. If there is a craft brewery, there is a food truck set up next to it to feed its patrons. Of the BBQ trucks here, I am the only one that competes in BBQ competitions. I have placed in several divisions over the last 4 years. We have local events like the Sturgis Rally and the Black Hills Stock Show that will bring in a tremendous amount of revenue.
I am still in the start-up/research phase. I have a rough business plan drafted and 3 years of projections. I have a menu created that will feature rotating items. I am still tweaking a few things. I have created my own sauces and rubs also. I have priced out several commercial BBQ trailers. I have taken the required food safety classes and passed the tests. I am a certified ServSafe Manager. I believe I am at the point to where I need to start asking for investors and financing. I have my LLC and my EIN already set up. I have more than $5000 already invested in this venture.
My short term goals are to get a trailer and get the business rolling. I am also planning on producing and marketing my sauces and rubs. In 3-5 years I would like to have a storefront to operate out of along with keeping mobile with the trailer. There are plenty of smaller towns and cities within 100 miles that are being ignored by the other food trucks.
