Help us not pave paradise.
I am creating a green space venue, The Whistlestop, and coffee shop, Treehouse Coffee, for the community to enjoy food music and art. The area is booming with development, building thousands of houses, a college, a hospital, a multimillion-dollar county park, a man-made lagoon, expanding the 6A high school and the railroad station museum all within a 2 mile radius of the proposed venue.
The community has been requesting a coffee shop and to preserve some greenspace in our historic town of Parrish, Florida for years as there is no venue of this type within 30+ miles in all directions. Manatee County just approved an ordinance for food truck parks and extended the noise ordinance to accommodate this type of space. A new lift station for sewer access has been built and electricity and water are now available at the location. The county is also widening the frontage road to 4 lanes making it a collector road extending access to the Interstate and the center of Florida. The road, Erie Rd, has become a major route for those in and around the area.
I am currently using the space for community events and food truck access. I need funding for infrastructure, zoning and permitting costs to create a usable space. The venue will offer select food trucks, seating, natural and artificial shade, vendor spaces for local vendors, child play area, pet friendly play area, a stage for live music/performances, bathrooms, and parking. Along with this I plan to build the coffee shop desperately needed in the area. There is not a coffee shop in the town, and the land is currently zoned to allow this.
The coffee shop will share the greenspace with the food trucks with exclusivity for serving coffee. It will also offer space for the community to use for mentoring and tutoring utilizing the resources from the local high school and college, within walking distance of the venue. I have already discussed the concept and received the support from the college provost and high school principal.
Parrish is not incorporated thus managed by Manatee county. I have been active in the community for years, sitting on the Parrish Civic Association Board of Directors (Parrish's only governing body) for 10 years, with 5 years as President becoming very familiar with regulations and am well known and supported in the county. I have already presented the plan to Manatee County and the community with very positive feedback and support. "We need something like this".
Please help our community achieve the dream of not paving over all of paradise.
