Hello! How are you today? Well I'm great, but sometimes, I'm not so great. I am 28 years old and have Crohn's disease. If you're not super familiar with this disease, essentially it's an autoimmune disease in which anywhere in your digestive track can become inflamed and create a slew of symptoms. Many people with Crohn's suffer from extreme stomach pain, exhaustion, nausea, and need the bathroom often. This makes it very difficult to work a regular 8 hour shift job. I'm either ridiculously full of energy, or so exhausted that there's no choice but to sleep. A perfect career for me is something that I can do most of the work in my own time. If I were to be self-employed I could hire others with the tasks I am not able to do and handle all of the clerical work and logistics during the hours of the day I feel well. Of course I realize that owning your own business is a lot of work and I will sometimes need to work when I'm not well, but this way, I can create a sustainable career for myself and earn some extra income. I have no idea how bad my illness will be when I'm 50, so I would prefer to financially prepare for the future now.
So, what am I going to do about it? Well, If you've ever been to Drumheller Alberta, you know how amazing it is and know how busy it gets. As a child my family would go there every summer to see the badlands and the Royal Tyrell Museum. It has always been my dream to run my own accommodations and I have found an Inn there with 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. I have talked with the owner and she is willing to sell me the property and business for a fair price. However due to covid (and previously being an airline employee) I have spent most of my savings and am in need of capital to start my business.
This Inn has been in operation for over 25 years and has the potential to become something very special. I plan to make it into something very original and unique, something that people recommend to friends and family for years to come.
I have worked in many facets of the hospitality industry including different hotels, restaurants, retail, and before covid I worked in a head office for a major Canadian airline (Westjet). I really would like to purchase an Inn as soon as possible while I'm still young and have the energy and motivation to renovate and run it.
Also, as part of my business plan, I will be hiring a few local people. I am going to give my employees a good wage, encourage an inviting workplace, buy local food, and support local businesses by recommending them to guests.
If you have any further questions or would like to see my business plan please feel free to reach out.
