Perilav is the next generation platform for surgical and wound irrigation built on the Perilav Peristaltic Pump, accessory Perilav Tube Sets, and the Perilav Containment Bag. Surgical irrigation is built on the premise that the first step in wound care after patient assessment and diagnosis is to wash the wound out. Pulsatile surgical irrigators have been the standard device in use for the preparation and treatment for surgical wounds for the last thirty years.
The Perilav Pump is a high quality, durable peristaltic pump meant for repeated and regular use in inpatient, outpatient, and home healthcare settings. It is a portable solution that is both smaller and lighter than any other peristaltic pump application in healthcare while maintaining the capacity to pump in excess of 1800cc/min at 8-9 PSI.
The Perilav Tube Set is a single-use tube set and proprietary applicator wand designed for use with the Perilav Pump for delivering high volumes of fluid in a pressurized flow pattern for all irrigation applications. The core tube set and wand is a surgical tube with an IV tubing spike at one end and a proprietary wand with a high pressure sprayer tip on the other. The Perilav Containment bag is an innovative solution for containing fluid and debris from an irrigation procedure that solves the problem of overspray, aerosolization, and the general messiness of irrigation for outpatient and home health settings. The bag attaches to the patient and maintains a seal around the irrigated area. The bag is strong enough to hold up to 10 liters of fluid without rupture or leakage and can be safely disposed of in general waste.
Compared to an industry standard pulsatile irrigator, the Perilav system is both more effective at irrigation and offers significant cost savings per application and across the supply chain. The Perilav system delivers more fluid at a higher pressure in a vectored pattern versus any pulsatile irrigator that functions perpendicular to the wound surface. The per-treatment cost of irrigation with the Perilav system is significantly lower than the cost of a pulsatile irrigator in addition to having a simplified supply chain with no disposable electronics. The amount of packaging and storage space needed for the Perilav system is a fraction of that needed for a comparable number of treatments via disposable pulsatile irrigator. The use of an irrigation containment bag reduces or eliminates the need for a vacuum tip for removing fluid, contains aerosolized microbes and matter, and makes irrigation a viable treatment in outpatient and home health settings that don’t have the sterility, equipment, and setup of a standard operating room.
Stiehl Tech has partnered with Ontogen Medtech to bring the Perilav system to market. Ontogen specializes in helping startup medtech companies establish and conduct regulatory compliance and supports the engineering of a compliant production system. As the company nears commercialization, an administrative team will be recruited to oversee all aspects of Stiehl Tech’s business.
