Raising $100k for beauty marketplace for people of color

Skin Edit + co. was born when founder Ashley Williams went searching for skincare products for her specific needs and had to dig through multiple e-commerce platforms to find products that could potentially work. Having to pay multiple shipping fees plus taking the risk on if these products would actually work for her was frustrating. This is when Skin Edit was born. Ashley has worked in the luxury beauty industry for over 10 years and understands that inclusivity has not been a priority. However, we have created a marketplace for women and men of color to be able to find products curated specifically for them on an elevated platform with top tier brands.

As of today, our website is under development and we are in the final stages. Additionally, we have signed on top tier brands that are going to be apart of the launch.  These brands include Ilia Beauty, Costa Brazil, Rosen Skincare, Golde, Plant Apothecary, Patchology, Korres, Unsun, Saint Jane, La Presh and Sukie's Candles. We are also in discussion with other brands as well who have not confirmed yet. We are continually growing our Instagram account as an authority on beauty.

The value of the US beauty industry has reached $93.5 billion in the last few years. Ethnic people spend about $10 billion per year on cosmetics within the USA. This market is only growing as new niche brands emerge and existing brands expand their portfolios. As of today, there is only one relevant marketplace that focuses on selling to people of color (blkandgrn.com). However, their focus is on all natural products and Black Americans. Skin Edit + co. will focus on all people of color and brands that are either created by people of color or are inclusive in their offering. Our platform is also an elevated website with mid-luxury to premium luxury brands.

As next steps, we want to use financing to order sufficient inventory to be ready for the launch. Additionally, through previous relationships, we will be signing on a top tier PR agency to work with press and influencers to get recognition through the media. In order to achieve optimum success, we will also want to hire a coordinator for social media and customer service. Key platforms such as Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat, etc. are fundamental in new brand success. Through the initial financing, we plan to have sales of $270,000 in year 1, $540,000 in year 2 and $1.26 million in year 3.
