Permanent Cosmetics Atelier (PCA) www.permanent-cosmetics-atelier.com
Start up permanent cosmetics business in brick (tattooing eyebrows, eyeliner, scalp, areola). Permanent Cosmetics Atelier (PCA) has been approved by the town and department of health. There are two procedure rooms that are client ready at this time. There is a private bathroom. The studio can be outfitted with a total of 5 client chairs. There is a semi-decorated waiting area and office.

The website is completed but could use some professional tweaking. Ads have been placed on Instagram and Facebook which is the norm for this industry. Additional ads really should be placed on Google. Brochures have been distributed to plastic surgeons in the area and in other establishments around town. Start-up sales have been introduced for the month of October to increase awareness about our services.

Request includes upgrading the internet; purchase of minor equipment and supplies; operational expenses; additional marketing; and my salary.

About the Staff

I am the owner and operator of the studio. I am a registered nurse (RN) and hold a PhD in Health Services and am retired from that field. I am a credentialed certified permanent cosmetics artist with the American Academy of Micropigmentation (AAM). My permanent cosmetics education from the Beau Institute includes the application of pigmentation to create simulated eyebrows; eyeliner; lip liner & blush/color; scar camouflage; tattoo lightening; areola and 3D nipples. Feel free to access the website for more details. There is also an artist independent contractor at the studio. She is also fully credentialed by the AAM and teaches at the Beau Institute. We both hold malpractice insurance as mandated by association and state regulations. The studio and the staff have met the requirements by the state, association, and department of health regulations.

About the Clients

Our clients age ranges from 19-60+. Primarily female although there will be males as well. The women are seeking the permanence of this make up application for their convenience and ease. Their tattoos will not smudge or run. Some fading will occur over time. Reapplication of the tattoo will be needed periodically and is dependent upon many factors. This means that we will have repeat clients over the years. Clients in this field tend to be loyal customers when they are satisfied with the results of their procedure(s).

Projected Income

The cost of each service ranges from $100-$600+ depending upon the service, length of time needed to complete the service, and number of follow up visits required. All services generally require at least one follow up visit.

I have been told by experts in the field that my first 3 months in business will be very slow… to nothing. My first month is over and we only had 2 clients for touch up services.

I expect to service about 3 clients a week in about 3 months time. This is a very low estimation as I wouldn’t want to over promise financial gains. If I am able to provide services at about $500 per client I would be able to bring in $6,000 a month (ie, 3 clients/week).

Of course I’d like to have at least 5 clients a week which would help meet operating expenses. That would bring in $2,500/week resulting in $10,000/month. But I don’t really see this happening for the first 6 months.
I could bring in around $5,000/week ($20,000/month) if I had 2 clients a day. But I don’t expect this to happen for at least a year, maybe longer.

Those estimates are based on me working alone.

The business income can be even higher after I have more artist technicians working in the studio. As stated, there is potential for 5 chairs in my studio. Each additional independent contractor artist artist could bring in $16,000/month ($4,000/week) when fully established; their remuneration is 50% of the cost of the service provided. For example, if an independent contractor brought in $16,000/month in services they would earn $8,000 of that $16,000.

Ultimately, the studio could bring in $80k/month with 5 active artists; that’s $40k for the studio after the artists have been paid. I am told that this should be the expectation within 2-3 years.

In the future (5+ years),  I would like to purchase a two-story building. The first floor would be outfitted as a studio. The second floor could be created as a school or my living space (that is yet to be determined).

Monthly Expenses

Monthly expenses at this time include rent, utilities, internet, insurances, other items (inspection costs, fees, marketing, etc) and my salary. That is about $8,000/month; I’m told that I need to add another $2,000 for marketing but I want to look into that more. An itemized list can be reviewed during negotiations.
