The founder of Odyssey Entertainment Company is a native Detroiter and African American, female. After earning MBA and Economics master degrees, I embarked on 20-year career in various leadership roles at several Fortune 500 companies which has equipped me with the business acumen necessary to successfully own and operate a small business. I also have a local advisory team consisting of a restaurateur, commercial/residential developer, general contractor and games developer to assist me through this process.
Odyssey is a technology-enabled entertainment business that operates a sports bar and restaurant with a high-tech digital eSports video gaming lounge. It is designed to appeal to Millennial and Gen Z group. This group spends 8 to 12 hours a week playing video games, contributing to a $200B global video gaming industry; and the United States has the largest market share of $57B with a projected 14 -16% CAGR. There are 3.5M Millennials and Gen Z persons living in Michigan with $1.2M living in Detroit's tri-county area. Based on industry projections, demographic studies, and metaverse trends, I believe this will be a viable business.
Odyssey is the first of its kind in the Detroit market. The planned location is in an opportunity zone in Midtown. This location is also in close proximity to Wayne State University and Detroit's downtown entertainment hub which includes Ford Field, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, Casinos, Theatres, etc. all of which draw adults of all ages from both the metro-Detroit area and across the state.
Odyssey will also provide benefits to the community by creating up 50 jobs and act as catalyst for further economic development in the area. I plan to partner with local non-profits to offer training and space use for appropriate fundraising events.
