Nana's Closet Consignment & Coffee Shop is a nonprofit organization that sells gently used items from donations and consignments in our community.  We use the proceeds to employ, train, and counsel parents who are recovering from abusive relationships, as well as young families who are seeking work but cannot afford childcare.  Our goal is to create better parents, self-sufficient families, and stronger communities.

Sirena was born in poverty to a single mother.  She grew up watching her mother struggle to feed and care for her and her four siblings. Her mother having to work constantly was not aware of the sexual abuse she was enduring.  Not being provided a stable home and good instruction, she repeated many of her mother's same mistakes.  She left home at 16 years old, got pregnant,  married, and found herself in a cycle of abuse and neglect.  Soon, she was divorced and homeless with five kids of her own to care for, with hardly any support or help.  With God's help, she made it through and now has a career as realtor as well as a homeschooling mother. She is looking for a way to help parents who find themselves in situations like hers find resources and break the cycle of poverty and broken families.

"There were no continuing resources available to secure a future for you or your family," she said.  "My hope is to form a comprehensive, whole life approach to caring for those in family crisis, so that families can remain together, be independent of government assistance, and parents can be actively involved in raising their own kids." Having personally seen the lasting trauma that the adult children of these types of situations cause has moved her to want to create a family friendly workplace.
