Merrill Farms

Merrill Farms is going to be a modified permacultute organic market garden. Our plan is to use beneficial insects and companion plants instead of commercial herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. We want to amend the soil at the base level instead of topically where it can wash off in the next rain. We will be no-till, disturbing the soil as little as possible so that insects and roots form tunnels that captures CO2 and keeps water in the soil.

We will offer vegetable box (CSA) delivery, restaurant delivery, go to farmers markets., and have an onsite store.
Our plan is to  also sell to 7 - 10 restaurants that use $40,000 to $50,000/year in produce and collect their vegetable scraps, therefore reducing their trash output. We will offer 20 and 30 week CSAs during the summer and 10 and 15 week CSAs in the winter@ $15, $30 and $45. Our goal is 150 CSA`s. While the CSAs are active, the onsite store will be open. The greater Athens area has 48,000+ households (zbout 200,000 residents) but there only 4 or 5 CSAs and they fill up quickly. There are only two produce companies that deliver daily and 3 - 4 that deliver o be or twice a week. We will be able to offer a better price by cutti g out the middle man.

 We are going to have 3 greenhouses for year-round production  and germination and 3 - 4 high tunnels to extend the growing season.
