The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation, Inc. was founded in December of 2016. The foundation was made and named in honor of our founder’s sister who passed due to Sickle Cell. Jasmine R. Phillips was just 20 years old when she lost her battle with sickle cell disease on June 13, 2014. Even with her detrimental diagnosis, she never allowed it to ruin her spirit and continued to inspire everyone around her. With this inspiration, The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation was created to promote awareness and provide support to those in the Sickle Cell community.
Jasmine was known for her dedication to uplifting youth in her community. She was a member of a well-known step team in Rocky Mount, NC where she constantly motivated the members of her team. Despite her disease, she was deeply involved in many other extra-curricular activities in her community. This caused her to be known as a light, as someone who never quit despite their current conditions. With this foundation, we plan to continue Jasmine’s purpose in uplifting the youth in the Rocky Mount community. We have done this so far by hosting “Warrior Fun Days” where the youth in the community has an opportunity to enjoy recreational activities. As well as “Warrior Retreats” where youth in the community take trips to build self-confidence, self-worth and learn practices on how to instill this in their daily lives. But most importantly, host informational seminars about best practices to follow when battling Sickle Cell.

We are looking for investors to come onboard to help us build the bridge to what's next. We have a goal to bring sickle cell warriors around the world together in one place. To do that we will need help with raising the money to get these things done. The proposed projects are comprised of several different, but related activities:
  1. JSCW Warrior Fun Days - Held During the Summer Months May – August
JSCW hosts a series of recreational activities for youth in the community as well as youth with sickle cell. Bounce houses, common carnival treats, and field games are available for the youth to participate in and bond with other youth in the community.

  1. JSCW Empowerment Conference - Held during the week of June 13th each year
JSCW Empowerment Conference is an annual event where we invite all youth in the community to attend motivating panel discussions with successful professionals as panelists from the Sickle Cell community. These events would promote Sickle Cell Awareness in the Edgecombe County, NC community. Also, seminars that promote different practices that sickle cell diagnosed patients can add to their daily routine to better their well-being. Recreational games and activities are held to allow the youth in the community to bond with each other.

  1. JSCW Drive In Movie Night - Summer Nights
JSCW Drive In Movie Night is an opportunity to allow families in the Edgecombe County, NC community to watch recently released family films within the state’s social distance guidelines by offering guests to drive in and participate from their vehicles. While watching these films on a projector screen, common movie treats are offered to enjoy. These events allow youth and most importantly, youth that have had to stay inside due to the COVID pandemic to leave their homes and participate in an outdoor event in a safe manner.

  1. JSCW Let’s Talk About Sickle Cell on Clubhouse
Once a week, JSCW hosts “Let’s Talk About Sickle Cell on Clubhouse” where we invite Sickle Cell diagnosed patients to share their common troubles and participate in community-like conversations. These conversations can be considered therapeutic for those who may be isolated due the COVID pandemic.

  1. JSCW Sickle Cell Awareness Seminars - Monthly via zoom or in-person
The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation hosts several seminars each year to educate locals in the community about the importance of Sickle Cell Awareness. These seminars empower youth to remain motivated about achieving their dreams and different alternatives in obtaining them considering their Sickle Cell diagnosis. We also educate their families and their friends with information on how to support them in their fight against Sickle Cell. The information given during each of these seminars are commonly from medical experts that have studied and are working with Sickle Cell patients.

JSCW Seminars on Sickle Cell Awareness are open to the public. The seminars topics include but is not limited to:

  1. What is Sickle Cell Anemia?
  2. What are the symptoms of Sickle Cell Anemia?
  3. What are the types of Sickle Cell disease?
  4. Who is at risk for Sickle Cell Anemia?
  5. What complications can arise from Sickle Cell Anemia?
  6. What are the options available to treat Sickle Cell Anemia?

The purpose of the seminars will be to educate the community on what sickle cell is all about. While empowering youth to dream. Some seminars will be in a panel form. As well as some being one on one with different speakers, who will speak about the many different levels of sickle cell.

  1. JSCW Warrior Summer Camp - Pending Due to Covid

Warriors must be attending a 4-year College or University to receive this scholarship. JSCW's goal is to give two warriors $500 each semester while in school.

  1. JSCW Warrior Care Fund – Support given during the year
The JSCW Foundation Warrior Care Fund was created after recognizing the high number of locals suffering from financial troubles in the Edgecombe County community. Edgecombe County is considered a “Hard to Count” Census Tract by the US Census and is also considered a “Low Income” county in North Carolina. Edgecombe is where the JSCW Foundation was established and with being very familiar with the area, we have been able to develop programs and resources tailored to support the residents.

As of today, we have given up to $2,000 to support families with members who suffer from Sickle Cell Disease. Our goal is to support as many families as possible with members who suffer from the Sickle Cell disease in any way that we can. We wish to always provide for families that may need our assistance.
