Intermountain Sequencing

Raising $620,000 to offer forensic Whole Genome Sequencing (in partnership with existing forensic lab)

We are Intermountain Forensics, an Accredited forensic DNA testing laboratory founded by former personnel (including a former Lab Director) of Sorenson Forensics.  We are looking for investors to enable us to offer forensic Whole Genome Sequencing.  (WGS is a type of DNA testing that enables broader searches for unidentified subjects, such as persons of interest in a crime or identifying human remains.  One example of forensic WGS was the identification of the Golden State Killer.)  Forensic WGS is needed in 250,000+ unsolved homicides, 80,000+ sexual assaults, and up to 100,000 unidentified bodies.  Currently, there are two labs in the U.S. that perform forensic WGS, neither of which is Accredited.   Nearly all of our existing clients, and all RFPs issued for forensic DNA testing, request forensic WGS as an option.   We are currently outsourcing WGS to the other labs.   If we offered WGS internally, we would have an immediate advantage in responding to clients and RFPs, which always state a preference for an Accredited lab.

To add WGS, we need an Illumina Novaseq 6000, which costs about $500,000 (used) plus transportation, validation, etc.  (New Novaseqs are $1m+)  Because Intermountain Forensics is a nonprofit, the cost is beyond our reach.  That is why we are looking for form a for-profit entity with investors to add this high-demand service.  As an existing lab we already have infrastructure in place, including favorable leased space and experienced personnel, as well as a good reputation throughout the forensic DNA industry.  This will enable investors to enjoy the fruits of a forensic WGS service without the high barriers to entry for a forensic DNA lab (including 1-2 years and $1m for Accreditation).  Competition will be extremely limited; due to a scarcity of labs, we are already one of only 2-3 bidders nationwide on every forensic DNA testing RFP.

More information is available to interested investors, including a pitch deck.
