At Fosters & Paws, we are more than just a small nonprofit; we are a lifeline for animals trapped in high-kill shelters across California. For the past four years, we've poured our hearts into rescuing over 2,200 animals—each one deserving of a second chance at life, love, and happiness. We believe that every life matters, which is why we go above and beyond to find forever homes for these animals, and if those homes don’t work out, we welcome them back with open arms. We never give up on them.
Recently, we took a bold step forward and opened a sanctuary, a safe haven where animals who need long-term care can find peace and healing. But with this growth comes great responsibility, and the costs are overwhelming. This year alone, our vet bills have skyrocketed to over $91,000—and there are still four months to go. We currently have 84 dogs in our care, and the weight of their needs is heavy on our shoulders. We’ve fought fiercely for the lives of puppies who came to us with parvovirus, with treatment costs averaging $2,000 per pup. We’ve seen the devastating effects of this disease, losing five precious lives, but celebrating the survival of ten brave souls who made it through. We’ve also faced the heartbreak of emergency C-sections, including one where a mother needed a blood transfusion and another where we tragically lost the mom after surgery.
These aren’t just numbers to us; they’re lives—lives that have been discarded, like the litters we’ve found thrown away in garbage cans. We refuse to let these innocent beings be treated like trash. We are committed to giving them the love and care they deserve, but we can’t do it alone. We’re asking for your help to raise $1 million to make critical improvements to our sanctuary. We need safer kennels, both indoor and outdoor, so our dogs can rest without fear. We need a better air filtration system to ensure they’re breathing clean, healthy air. We dream of play yards where our dogs and puppies can experience joy and freedom. We need new flooring to keep our space clean and our animals healthy, and a second building to quarantine new arrivals, ensuring they’re safe before joining our community. We also need a van to transport these precious souls to adoption events and from shelters where their time is running out.
We know it’s a lot to ask, but we believe in miracles, and we believe that with your help, we can create a sanctuary where every animal we rescue never has to worry again. Your support can make the difference between life and death for so many. Will you help us continue to be their lifeline?
