Our company, FogEr-iSoft, LLC, is focused on development of artificial intelligence (AI) powered digital solutions to help people, who are blind or have a low vision. This is a fast-growing population that it all too frequently overlooked and chronically underserved. There are over 40 million blind people in the world. The number of visually impaired people is much higher.
The AI technology can enhance and improve live quality of those people, allowing them to find rewarding careers, and to enjoy many activities independently or with friends and families.
The system we’re working on consists of three main components:
- glasses with built in high-definition cameras and connected bone conduction headset;
- a processing unit (possible, smart phone);
- control module performing through a smart phone for easy setup and configuration of the device.
Basic functionality:
1. Dynamic scenes scanning and recognition in different situations.
2. Object recognitions within the scenes.
3. Event calls – translation of the closest recognized object into audio message.
4. GPS functions – “Take me from my current location to location A” using voice commands (by feet and/or by available public transportation).
5. Full functionality offering by main competitors text recognition (for trained languages) including tags, stickers, product labels, etc., money recognition (for trained currencies), familiar (trained) face recognition.
6. Possibility to create and save frequently used situations, like visiting supermarkets, banks, doctors’ offices, etc.
Contrary to the main functionality of the main competitors who uses static pictures - snapshots in time, our solution is based on processing video streams using two HD cameras transferring them to a processing unit or smart phone. The processing unit should be trained using AI and neural network models, machine learning (ML) and deep machine learning (DL) for the dynamic scenes, objects, and text recognition. Processing than should be translated to verbal information for blind person or to specific vibrations for deaf-and-blind person through the headset that can be used in both directions – to get information and to send commands. For the processing unit we consider several options – built in the glasses (similar to VR/AR glasses} or built in the smartphone connected to the glasses through Bluetooth or cable connection.
We are looking for seed funding for our project.
