Hello. We are Chasing Rainbows Rescue and Sanctuary, and we need your help. We are a small 501c3 non profit horse and donkey rescue in State College, Pa(EIN 84-4538893).
We are in dire need. We recently found out that the property we have been leasing for a year will be put up for sale within the next 2 weeks, as the landlord(POA for the property owner) is no longer able to afford to keep it. This has us in a desperate fight to save what we have come to call home. We have been offered the property to purchase for $300,000 below recent market value. That number needed is $1.2M, plus upgrades($450,000). With this purchase, it will also allow us to offer programs that will make it possible for us to be 95% reliant on regular income from boarding horses and lessons, instead of relying so heavily on donations. Any for profit income will go right back to operating the non profit.
We are ideally looking for someone who will back the purchase, and donate the property to the organization for 36 months, while we work towards donors, fundraisers, and grants, so we can purchase it back for market value. We are also prepared to pay the taxes, insurance, and utilities on the property during that time. The other option we have been given is to pay a one time extended lease fee of $116,000, which will keep the farm off the market thru mid spring of 2024, allowing us the time needed to do fundraisers, apply for grants, and find donors to help us move towards purchase. For a small organization, both of those options are unreachable without some help. Since founding in August of 2021, we have saved the lives of over 70 horses and donkeys, including the 32 animals that currently call Chasing Rainbows home. Without this property, their fate is all but sealed, to return to the slaughter pens that we saved them from.
Since 2021, we have funded and run this adventure with minimal donations, a manure fork, a wheelbarrow, heart, and love. Please help us. Another big part of this organization that we want to see come to life is our Community Outreach program. This property, with some work, will be able to accommodate so many people in need. We want to work with foster children and families, children at risk of becoming part of the juvenile system, families in behavioral crisis(we have several behavioral therapists wanting to be part of this program), to help families build confidence, communication, and team building skills while working with the horses. We also want to offer retreat weekends for veterans and their families, as well as families of terminally ill loved ones.
We CAN'T do it alone. We don't want to see our community outreach program die before it's even born. We understand that this is a big financial investment, however please consider the even bigger investment in the community and the animals. This is an opportunity to start 2023 off with a meaningful tax deductible donation that will make such a huge differenc for so many. Thank you so much for taking the time. While a small part of it may be desperation, we can assure you that it is 99% determination. We are small, but we are mighty, and with your help, we can do so much more. Feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you are willing to help. We don't want a handout, but we do need a hand up. We have about a week before we are homeless, so this is our Hail Mary to save what we have worked so tirelessly to achieve. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tina Schultz
