My goal is to provide a true visual arts studio to enhance the creative abilities and encourage the imagination of children in my community to foster a healthy self-esteem. To do this I want to open a Children's Art Classes franchise as the curriculum is substantial and provides long term growth of the students .
As a single mom I have struggled to find REAL and QUALITY art instruction for my daughter . In a world that values math and science, there are STEM classes every where. However, to find true art instruction, that is not just expensive coloring classes, is a challenge.
The classes offer nine-month programs of study to include painting, drawing, design, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and much more. There is a 2 year curriculum for children in the following age groups 3 - 4, 5-6, 7-8, 9 - 18+ The younger classes are designed to allow for a child to enter the program at any point in the year and the classes don't repeat so in the two years nothing is duplicated. The classes for 9 year old children and older build on each other and the skill set does progress. There are workshops for a specific interest and summer classes and camps can help with tapping into a specific skill or interest. Also parties are an option for students and a great way to introduce children to the opportunity of attending the studio.
As I have a degree in Art History from UGA, I will tap into my art friends and SCAD here in Atlanta to find true art teachers to teach the classes. Two part-time teachers, a substitute teacher, along with myself will be the ultimate goal when fully operational. To start, I will teach the younger children and hire one art teacher to instruct the more advanced classes.
The parents pay on a monthly basis for the program and by the class for the workshop and parties. The approximate cost for the program is$125 - $150 a month depending on age group. When running at full capacity, 6 classes (2 classes at a time in separate studios) on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afterschool and Saturday mornings. Friday night would be for adult classes/workshops and Saturday afternoons would be for parties.
The desired studio location is in a complex where the offices look likes cottages and is very inviting. Currently there are two large daycares, a tutoring facility, and several family friendly restaurants. Building a relationship with the daycares and marketing in the restaurants is a key benefit of the location over a more typical strip mall location.
