In June 2018 without any preemptive marketing or advertising, CAFE MADDIE opened to much acclaim and long lines. We positioned ourselves to fill what we saw as a void in the market for a higher-end bistro-style café on the South Shore featuring premium brands (Peet’s Coffee, Emack & Bolio’s ice cream), and a diverse menu using high-quality ingredients. We aimed to present an urban feel to match the fabulous ocean view and to be family and pet friendly. From the tremendous feedback and reviews we have received along with a growing loyal customer base, we believe that we hit the mark.
CAFÉ MADDIE caters to a diverse demographic which includes a growing influx of young urban professionals filling the thousands of new high-end condominiums. In addition, we have a growing base of repeat customers many of whom are from outside our immediate area. We estimate that only about 15%-20% of the potential market for our café has been penetrated. We believe that even without a strong marketing effort and the enhancements listed below, the café will continue to grow rapidly.
Through hard-earned experience and market feedback we have learned what we need to do to elevate CAFÉ MADDIE and dramatically increase sales. To achieve this we seek to raise $100,000 by the end of February 2020. The proceeds will be used to finance the following:
· The purchase of a beer and wine license which will greatly enhance and expand our evening food business as well as augment our already busy Saturday and Sunday brunch.
· Subsidize the hiring of a higher-level Back of the House Manager with culinary skills to enhance our menu offerings.
· The purchase of LED menu boards.
· A makeover of the front to include adding a second soft serve machine and blenders so we can implement a smoothie/juice bar.
· Purchase and install a second cash register that will be dedicated to frozen desserts and the smoothie/juice bar.
· Purchase a char grill to enhance and expand our menu offerings.
· Pay down some debt to increase cash flow.
· Use for working capital during the buildup.
· Promotion and marketing both online and in traditional media
· Trademark the name and logo
Wollaston Beach is rapidly becoming a summer destination for the growing population of Quincy, Boston, and the South Shore. With our large attractive patio, our greenhouse, and our unique offerings (we are the only ones to offer super-premium ice cream, real frozen custard, craft coffee drinks, breakfast, and pizza), we have gained a foothold. We believe that with this investment we can potentially double our sales in 2020 alone. Additionally, we see the opportunity for CAFÉ MADDIE (a bistro/sidewalk café) to expand throughout the South Shore and Boston.
