We are a new, women-owned, independent bookstore. We are 100% owner financed, but in need of capital to expand into other areas so we can survive as a bookseller.  We are a brick-and-mortar bookstore in a flourishing downtown area in a small Kentucky city. Even though our city is growing, it is still difficult to survive on book sales only in a small town with little tourism.  We are housing local artisans on a commission basis; however, we only take small percentage so they can succeed as well.  We also offer peripherals such as cards, journals, candles, etc., but feel we need something more to be profitable. Our city has recently passed an ordinance which allows pubs and bars to exist without food service. This gave us the idea to expand into our lower level with a bar, reading area, game tables and event space. This will give patrons a place to read, play board games, or just hang out while their people are shopping within our walking district. We also think alcohol sales will enhance events such as hunt a killer night, book clubs, wine and design events, speed dating, or any other sort of event we can dream up. There are, as of yet, no bars that exist without food service in our community, so this could be a unique space.

We are two women, one with a bachelor's degree in business management and the other with a master's degree in education. We think these degrees and our work experiences blend well to give us the knowledge base we need to succeed at bookselling. We are currently earning enough revenue to pay our bills, replenish stock, and meet payroll for our four employees, but hope that this expansion can afford us the ability to pay ourselves as well. Broadway Books is a member of the American Booksellers Association, the Southern Independent Booksellers Association, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and several local business organizations. We feel we are worthy of your investment consideration.
