The Brick Zone is seeking $150,000 to fill a current void in the community by having events and programming for families, young children and adults using Lego.
We intend to lease a mixed retail/event space that can host a variety of events. The owners are former librarians and teachers who are looking to bring events to the community that are engaging, screen-free, and fun while also educational.
These events planned so far include Mommy and Me story hour using Duplo (Lego meant for young children) where parents and children can read a book together and build a character animal.
General build time for toddlers and children, where they can socialize, build together, have fun in a safe enviorment. Since Legos are expensive, but very educational this provides lower income families with the same opportunites for play and engagment without having to spend hundreds of dollars on a Lego set.
STEM/STEAM programming for homeschools, clubs and teams - currently the expense of Lego makes it difficult for local clubs, teams and especially homeschool coops to afford to use Lego to its full potential as a STEM/STEAM learning tool.
Screen-free programming for chidlren and teens, such as design a pumpkin for Halloween, a reindeer for Christmas.
And adult fans of Lego projects - such as build a lightsaber for May the Fourth. As well as provide a space for Adult Lego Clubs and Lego Trains to meet and socialize.
The money will be used to acquire and modify space to our needs, inventory, furniture, and advertising/marketing. This angel/investment funding will keep costs lower for these groups. The retail function will support the event and programming going forward.
